Think about where you were professionally five years ago…
Maybe you were still in college or working an unpaid internship. Maybe you were entry-level or giving freelancing a try. You’ve come a long way.
So, what’s next? How are you going to advance your career?
Continued learning and training are a part of your game plan. You’ll keep building your network and updating your LinkedIn profile. So is everybody else competing for the same positions you’re chasing.
Who’s looking out for you in your career? Who can help you chart a path and make it to your destination?
This is not to be confused with the leadership in your organization, though you can find a mentor in your company. That might be the way to go especially if your goal is to stay long term and climb the ranks. When you’re searching for a mentor, look to find somebody who has achieved the milestones you aim to hit.
It can also be fruitful to find a mentor who has overcome similar challenges or obstacles. There are tons of theories and strategies about how to find the right mentors and to what extent you should lean on them. By and large, cultivating the right mentor relationship is an art and a science, with a little magic thrown in.
To help you better understand the nuances of this relationship-building, Young Professionals of Seattle’s ProDev team is hosting a fireside chat with founder and principal of 3C Comms, Bryan Rutberg. He will be joined onstage by Nick Hughes, serial entrepreneur and founder of Founders Live.
Join us as Bryan and Nick share their experiences both as mentors and as mentees. Be sure to come prepared with questions – there will be some time for Q&A. We’ll be getting started at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7th following a full day of free networking and learning activities at ATLAS Workbase.
